  • Boomer and Stanek will be a close one, even records and similar schedules so far make this one tight, but I’m picking Stanek for the win.
  • Wangensteen looks for their first win as they take on Arndt this week.  I hate to see anyone go winless, but based on Arndt’s victory over Boomer in week 2, I’m going to pick Arndt.
  • One of the three teams yet to lose this season, Lawrence should expect another win this week against Rohde.
  • Lichty takes on Anderson in a battle that will be closer than the standings would show.  Lichty’s surge-from-behind win two weeks ago against McGovern shows that they can contend with higher ranked teams, but Anderson has won two in a row and is my pick for the win this week.
  • Dveris v Lockwood is dead even.  I’m going with Dveris due to their defeat of Stanek in week two.
  • Erickson and McGovern match up on the center sheet this week in a game that could go rock for rock.  Similar records don’t tell the whole story here.  Erickson has had a tough start playing (and losing to) three top rated teams while McGovern has yet to play any teams in the top half of the standings.  Since I play for McGovern, I’m picking them, but this victory will have to be earned.
  • Kruse and Sonnabend won’t be easy, but Sonnabend is on a roll.
  • Dubois squares off against Beranek this week and calling this one is tough.  Both have wins off lower ranked rinks so this match could be the tipping point for either’s season.  I’m picking Dubois because they have had a little more practice this season.

If all goes well, the results will be posted Thursday morning, so check back so see how the league progressed this week.

As always, good curling.

Week 1 Featured Matchup

League play starts tonight and I’m sure everyone is excited to get started.  Since I haven’t talked to any other teams yet, I’ll talk about the McGovern v. Wangsteen matchup on sheet 3.

This should be a pretty close match based on last year’s standings .  McGovern finished last year in 6th place over all with a record of 11:6 while Wangsteen finished two spots below with a 9:9 record.  Scouting reports indicate that the McGovern rink got some ice time in a few weeks ago.  The practice status of team Wangsteen has not been mentioned on Facebook or Twitter, so I’ll classify them as “undetermined”.

Last year’s meeting between Wangsteen and McGovern resulted in a McGovern win.  Will there be a repeat tonight?  Only time will tell.  The important point is that we all get out there and have a good time playing.

See you at the club.

Metro League Starts Next Week

Who wants to curl?

Hey fellow Wednesday night Metro League curlers, competition starts next week.  I know that everyone is excited to get back on the ice and have another great season.

First order of business: welcome to the new site.  Last year, I was goofing around with some different styles and methods of tracking the league, and I think I have a pretty good product now, so I hope you like the look and functionality of thehogline.com.  If you have any ideas to make this site better feel free to send me your thoughts through the contact page (once I get it set up).

The idea of this site is to help everyone in the league have a little more fun and get to know each other a little better.  I would be happy to set up a page for your team similar to the Team McGovern page above.  Just stop by the Add Team page under the Metro League menu and add some information about your team in the form, you can even upload a team logo and pictures if you have some.

Of course, tracking the weekly progress of your team and others in the league is very important to us.  You can find everything you need to know over at the League Standings page.  There you can look at results from previous weeks or look ahead to upcoming matches by selecting the the week you want to see.  You can also look at the full schedule of each team using the team selector.

Stay tuned to watch for new features as I make them available and come back on Thursdays to see how the rankings change.  I can tell it’s going to be a great season.

Good Curling,

Kid Mankato
